Patrick is a Certified Development Coach with Volleyball Canada. This is Patrick’s eighth year with the Park Girls Volleyball Club and his 2nd year coaching with our 16U program.

Patrick has been involved in athletics for most of his life. Growing up in Calgary, he competed in multiple sports—earning City Championships in soccer, basketball, and hockey—before discovering volleyball in junior high, a passion that has carried forward for more than 30 years. He began his volleyball journey as a setter before transitioning to outside hitter in high school. In 1996, he joined the SAIT Trojans men’s volleyball team as a walk-on, competing for four seasons in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). During his tenure with the Trojans, Patrick played a pivotal role in transforming the men’s volleyball program from a 2nd last place finish in the ACAC South Division to the No.1 Ranked team in Canada. Patrick contributed to this growth and was part of teams that earned a provincial bronze medal (1999), provincial silver medal (2001), and national silver medal (2001). He was twice named team MVP, earned ACAC All-Conference honors in consecutive years, and was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the 2001 CCAA National Championship. He also partnered with Mike Funk to capture the 1999 Alberta Men’s Beach Doubles Provincial Championship and currently holds three ACAC statistical records.

After moving to Edmonton in 1999, Patrick continued to compete in men’s, co-ed, and beach volleyball leagues, where he met his wife, Tara. Together, they played competitively throughout Western Canada for more than a decade, winning 10 Tier 1 league championships and multiple co-ed tournaments. Now living in Sherwood Park, Patrick and Tara enjoy sharing their love of the game with their three daughters.

As a coach, Patrick emphasizes long-term player development, focusing on strong fundamentals, proper technique, and building a positive team culture. He encourages players to give their best effort, pursue both individual and team growth, and develop the confidence to reach their full potential. His approach challenges athletes to strengthen both their physical and mental skills. Prior to volleyball, Patrick coached soccer for 16 seasons with the Sherwood Park District Soccer Association, including five years as a head coach with the Phoenix program. He also holds multiple Canadian Soccer Association coaching certifications.
